75 years ago: “Miss Virginia Conway, who celebrated her 15 birthday invited 19 guests to share the occasion. Guests were divided into teams and spent a greater portion of the afternoon in feverish and hilarious pursuit of an endless procession of items as they participated in a scavenger hunt.”

50 years ago: “The famous Silverton narrow gauge train will make the final run of the longest and busiest season on record with a 12-car train planned for the finale. ... Wednesday will end 120 consecutive days of regular operation during which time two trains made the run 66 times and single trains were used the other 54 days.”

25 years ago: “Glass, aluminum and paper would be picked up by city trash crews and recycled under a new program being considered by the Durango City Council. Seven collection sites around the city would be available for apartment and condominium residents, as well as rural residents who wanted to drop off recyclables.”
