50 years ago: Mona Garrett’s large, relatively new trailer was destroyed by fire at Island Cove Trailer Court. She returned home to find her unit in flames, and was hospitalized due to shock. The cause of the fire was unknown, and amounted to approximately $8,000 in losses.
25 years ago: Sheldon Keresey, the FLC football team’s head coach, resigned after four years and an overall record of 6-30, with no more than two wins a season. He was emotional as he broke the news to the team, convinced a winning season would be possible only if he stepped down as coach. Most of the players felt betrayed and were seeking support from some new, yet-to-be-determined leadership.
