75 years ago: “In the past few days the prevalence of a type of stomach sickness among residents of Durango has caused much comment and a number of people believe the sickness is caused by Durango drinking water. Dr. R. L. Downing, city physician said that such sickness was not due to conditions of the water, and that as many cases have been from the country where different water is used, as have been reported in Durango.”

50 years ago: “A fund to help 18-year-old Linda Daniel who lost her sight in an automobile accident three months ago has been established. City Councilman John Hunt who has organized the campaign said, ‘Linda Daniel has faced this entire change in life with a radiant personality and smile. She is already reading braille ahead of schedule and has expressed the idea to go to school and become a teacher of braille.”

25 years ago: “Crews continued to fight a smoldering brush fire south of Marvel, one of several fires sparked by a storm that brought more lightning than rain. It had fried about 65 to 70 acres.”
