100 years ago: A follow-up story about a “supposedly insane” man on the Florida Mesa resulted in the arrest of John Butcher of Denver. Butcher said that he wanted to “butcher everyone who has an idea that Germany ought to be licked.” He was seen the night before “chewing the padding in the insane ward.”
75 years ago: Since it was first in operation in 1894, Durango Plumbing and Heating Co. announced that it was going out of business.
50 years ago: The city recreation department sponsored an evening self-improvement and physical development class for adult men and women.
25 years ago: Someone reported that dogs were stealing all the jerky hanging in a yard in the 2400 block of Arroyo Drive.
