And the West is history

100 years ago: A notice in the Local News section of The Durango Democrat said, “We noticed a very happy looking couple going to the Fair yesterday with eight lovely children. What more could people wish for in this world?”

75 years ago: Secretary Wickard asked “poultry men” to “hatch an extra brood of chickens” during the fall, “raise them to three pounds” and “market them thru January, February and March” to supplement the meat supply.

50 years ago: La Plata County commissioners transacted several items of business at their regular meeting and then went out with County Road Supervisor Jim Oliver to inspect a number of roads.

25 years ago: Multiple reports were filed about a candidate who was putting up campaign posters illegally near county roads 501 and 240.
