75 years ago: “An allotment of $3,714 for the operation of a garden at the La Plata County farm to grow produce for needy families was made today by Works Progress Administration officials in Washington. This is the third year that such a project has been carried on in La Plata County.”
50 years ago: An advertisement for Gradens Cosmetic Dept. read, “150’ Bubble Bath Bonanza.’ Giant economy size bubble bath in a tall, 10-inch-high bag that contains enough for 150 baths. The triple-safety pack is virtually unbreakable – with the re-usable out bag beautifully decorated in three different color combinations. Three pastel tones of bubble bath – pink, blue and green. $1.”
25 years ago: “When Michael Sanburg opened an official-looking letter one night at home he thought it was from an insurance company. Boy, was he surprised. ‘Dear Mike,’ it began. ‘Congratulations! I am pleased to inform you that you have been selected Employee of the Month for April.’ The letter was signed by the deputy director of the Colorado Department of Highways. The nomination was submitted without his knowledge by 11 of his fellow workers. Sanburg works in the Durango district headquarters automotive body shop.”
