50 years ago: “A whale of a good float: The senior class whale came in first in the class float competition for the Durango High School homecoming parade Friday. The whale was mobile and the tail moved up and down in a swimming motion, the eyes wiggled, and the whale spouted whatever whales spout every so often.”
25 years ago: “Durangoans shine at World Mountain Bike Championships: John Tomac of Durango took home one gold and one silver medal in Lucca, Italy, last weekend. Defending world champion Ned Overend, also of Durango, took home a bronze medal. It was the second-ever World Championships, after the inaugural event in Durango last year.”
