75 years ago: “Members of the San Juan Medical Society met at Mercy hospital to view movies and hear a talk on ‘syphilology’ by Dr. J. Grand Marthons, one of America’s authorities on syphilis.”

50 years ago: “To accommodate the 900-925 students expected when Durango High School opens a seventh period from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. is planned. The extra period will precede the regular six period day and will enable students and teachers to complete their work.”

25 years ago: “Durango’s fireworks display, squelched by dry weather on the Fourth of July, has been rescheduled to kick off the La Plata County Fair. The fireworks will sizzle, pop and spew from the La Plata County Fairgrounds.”
