100 years ago: “The San Juan creamery shipped a little over 2,000 pounds of butter to the Chicago markets this morning. The manager of the plant is planning to make a shipment of a carload next month.”
75 years ago: “As the janitor at Durango High School prepared to haul down the flag that flapped at the top of the pole at the corner of the high school building, two girls of the lower-teen age observed him. As the flag began to move majestically downward, they solemnly stopped, straightened themselves very erect, and removed their lollipops. The faces of both girls glowed as they watched the big flag’s descent.
25 years ago: “If you hear loud noises coming from the La Plata County Fairgrounds this weekend, don’t worry, it’s just a few men and women taking pride in their feats. Shoes made for four feet that is. The seventh annual Four Corners Farriers Contest will bring about 80 professional horseshoers to Durango Friday and Saturday for workshops, contests and to offer advice on how to make a better horse shoe.”
