100 years ago: “The Mayday hotel has changed hands, Mrs. J.W. Hubler, of Durango, and Mrs. J. Wanamaker, of Redmesa, having rented the place and are now operating it as a first-class hotel and lodging house, of which the mining town is proud.”

75 years ago: “Frank Grisenti of the Crystal Bar in Durango, was fined a total of $15 for his ‘amateur’ plumbing work. Grisenti was charged in a complaint filed by O.W. Harrah, city manager, with two offenses – doing plumbing work without a plumber’s license, and installing plumbing fixtures without first obtaining a city permit Grisenti was fined $5 and costs of $2.50 for each offense.”

50 years ago: “Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Koss spent several days in Aspen skiing. They then went on to Vail for an extra bonus on the slopes. Johnson is in Chicago now at the men’s clothing market on a buying trip for Stuart’s of Durango.”

25 years ago: “Purgatory Ski Resort will open chair lift 8 and the intermediate/expert terrain of the Legends area on Purgatory’s back side. The opening of lift 8 was postponed last week because of a problem with the tower alignment that was discovered during a routine inspection. With all nine lifts running. Purgatory will have 75 percent of the mountain open with 56 trails for expert, intermediate and beginning skiers.
