100 years ago: “An extensive revival of mining operations in the La Platas by the Tirbircio Gold Mining Co., owner of the Bonny Girl mine, is promised by William P. O’Toole, of Boston, president of the company. A large force of men now are at work cleaning out and getting the tram in shape to carry ore to the mills.”
75 years ago: “Wish the weather man would turn the faucet and help this country avoid some of the insults it has been receiving. Why, a tourist said that Colorado was looking almost like Kansas except that the hills are a little higher.”
50 years ago: The following appeared in the section titled Girl About Town: “The ladies are talking about ... The fancy dog house at the Dr. Dean Furry residence. It is an A-frame design and has shake shingles on the roof to match the house the Furrys are living in. The lucky resident is a German shepherd puppy. We’re not sure what the interior decoration is.”
25 years ago: “United Blood Services of Durango has scheduled a special blood drive in an effort to alleviate a serious blood shortage.” The United Blood Services was 200 pints below what was needed.
