100 years ago: “The road to Bondad by the state road across the mesa is in very bad condition, according to W.H. Norton, of the Ford garage, who went to Sunnyside with a party of passengers. He says the road down the river, however, outside of one mud hole is in good condition.”
75 years ago: “Due to the strong winds, which blew dust along with them, the band concert in the North Durango park was interrupted after it had been under way for an hour. A large crowd attended, mostly in parked automobiles, the horns of which furnished excellent applause.”
50 years ago: “Although no one will commit himself, rumors continue to circulate that Warner Bros. movie company has had representatives in the area scouting for a movie location. Company representatives have contacted the D&RGW for possible use of the Silverton train, a horse wrangler and hotel facilities. It was further reported that the picture would be the ‘Great Auto Race,’ starring Tony Curtis and Natalie Wood.”
25 years ago: “Oak banisters polished to a glow, windows scraped clean of paint and Southwest artwork splashing color on clean, white walls, the addition to the La Plata County Courthouse is open for business. The 6th Judicial District Attorney staff will move into new offices in the remodeled area that previously housed the district court. The move will mark the end of the courthouse expansion and remodel construction begun in March 1988.”
