100 years ago: “The Durango second ball team has reorganized and elected a new manager, and will play ball under the name of the Durango Cubs.”
75 years ago: “Durango officials are busy preparing for the second city election which will be held April 18 for the purpose of electing five members of the city council. In the first election candidates ran for the five offices to be filled, and because no majority of votes was obtained by any of the candidates the election was declared merely a primary.”
50 years ago: “The wonderful climate, beautiful mountains and friendly people top the list of things about the Durango area which the residents like while topping the list of dislikes is the lack of industry and the presence of high taxes. This is based on the results of the recently completed community survey conducted by the Durango Junior Chamber of Commerce.”
25 years ago: “Durango 9-R school students will get no second chance if caught with alcohol or illegal drugs on school property or at school events. The Board of Education unanimously approved an expanded, stricter procedure for handling drug abusers. Possession of drugs now can mean as much as a 10-day suspension.”
