“The old frame house on the site of the Herald’s new plant in the 1200 block of Main Avenue moved out to its new location on the Florida Road in December of 1964. Robert Rathjen will begin soon to demolish the adjacent stone and brick building to complete preparation of the site for the new structure.”

100 years ago: “Lyman mead, one of the prominent Animas valley ranchers, came in with a load of fine Wagner apples, which he sold to the Otis-McGirr mercantile company’s store.”

75 years ago: “Less snow was recorded in measurements taken at Silverton and Cascade on Feb. 1 of this year, than was on the ground at those places the same time in 1939. At Cascade, there was 35 inches of snow with a water content of 6.4 inches in Feb. 1, 1939. The 1940 readings made Feb. 1 show 20 inches of snow at Cascade, with a water content of 5.6 inches. At Silverton, there was 25 inches of snow with 3.9 inches of water content in 1939. This year’s Feb. 1 reading showed only 17 inches of snow at Silverton, with 3.4 inches of water content.”

50 years ago: “Leading hair stylists agree that there’s a part in your future. Parts will run diagonally, crisscross and in many various ways to achieve new, interesting and desired looks. Also predicted are medium-length hair-dos with ends subtly curled.”

25 years ago: IGNACIO – “The Committee for Better Tribal Government was scheduled to file a motion in Southern Ute Tribal Court asking for an investigation into irregularities in the tribe’s recall election. The CBTG will be asking for a temporary injunction on election results or a new election after the recall of the tribal council was invalidated.”
