And the West is History

100 years ago: SUNNYSIDE – “Everyone is busy with their fall plowing. It will not be very long until the ground will be frozen. In some places now the frost does not leave the soil during the day.”

75 years ago: An advertisement for Wallace’s read: “Free this week $12.50 set chromium plated cooking utensils with each new quick meal range $79.50 up during special sale. We take your old range in trade.”

50 years ago: “Motel swimming pools were frozen over for the first time this morning as the temperatures in Durango dropped to 11 degrees. Under clear skies the temperate rose to 37 degrees.”

25 years ago: “A 19-year-old former Fort Lewis College student convicted of heading a cocaine-selling operation in Durango, said he was sorry for his crime and wants to start a new life. He was sentenced to four months in jail as part of a five-year deferred judgement. He pleaded guilty earlier this fall to possession and distribution of cocaine in a plea agreement with the District Attorney’s office.”
