And the West is History

100 years ago: “Oscar Anderson, of the Animas Valley, was engaged in moving Mrs. Anderson’s personal effects from her former home in Animas City where she taught school during the winter, to the new ranch home in the valley.”

75 years ago: “Dr. and Mrs. John C. Darling returned from a delightful month’s sojourn into Texas and on the West Coast. During their trip the Darlings visited the exposition at San Francisco as well as numerous points of interest along California’s Gold Coast.”

50 years ago: “It’s lighter than ever in the living room of Jack Smith’s trailer these days. In Sunday’s windstorm, the roof was blown completely off and landed 100 feet away, knocking down a post fence. The air conditioner was also blown off and ruined. If that weren’t enough, the walls and roof in the back bedroom of the 10 x 55 foot trailer buckled and blocks under the trailer were knocked away.”

25 years ago: “McKenzie Methane Corp. has defied La Plata County’s gas and oil regulations and drilled a gas well without obtaining a county land use permit. The action is an attempt to force the 6th Judicial District court to reconsider a lawsuit dismissed by Judge Al Haas in March. McKenzie Methane is one of 12 plaintiffs in the lawsuit claiming the county regulations are illegal.”
