And the West is History

100 years ago: “C. W. Bloodgood, formerly a fancy chicken raiser in the Animas Valley, returned on the Eastern train from an extended trip to St. Louis, Denver and other cities where he has traveling connections with a St. Louis hardware firm.”

75 years ago: “With adverse conditions and rough terrain as handicaps, crews battling the forest fire near Needleton have as yet not succeeded in controlling the flames. Ninety firefighters were fighting the flames.”

50 years ago: “Several weeks without any appreciable amount of precipitation has resulted in extreme fire danger in the forests and some damage to dryland crops in La Plata County.”

25 years ago: “World War II in the air will be replayed at the Durango-La Plata County Airport when some of the best known fighter planes of the 1940s will be on hand. Featured additions to the air show will be a P-40 Warhawk, three performances of a Coors’ sponsored sky diving team, and a ground display of a U.S. Navy F-16 Eagle from the Miramar ‘Top Gun’ training school.”
