And the West is history

100 years ago: “Astrologer James Easy Conners, stewmaster at the Strater, returned in a special train from Pagosa Springs, where he went a couple of weeks ago to take a bath. He has gained 38 pounds since washing according to his best friends.”

75 years ago: “One feature of the Durango goodwill tour and one which will gain a lot of good publicity for the city and this section of the state, will be the group of Indian entertainers from the Consolidated Ute Agency at Ignacio.”

50 years ago: The Rocket, three miles south on U.S. Highway 550/160, was showing “Days of Wine and Roses,” starring Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick. The billing read: “It is different. It is daring. Most of all, in its own terrifying way, it is a love story.”

25 years ago: “The man sought for robbing the United Bank of Ignacio surrendered peacefully after the police surrounded an apartment in Abiquiu, New Mexico. Thomas J. McCabe, 36, of rural San Juan County, New Mexico, had been sought since a federal warrant was issued July 12 for his arrest.”
