100 years ago: “W. M. Porter, the commission man, who returned from Ignacio by auto reports the east side of the river road between Durango and Wilson Gulch is in a very dangerous condition having been badly caused by yesterday’s storm. He says everyone should be warned to keep off the road until necessary repairs are made to put the highway in safe condition again.”

75 years ago: This appeared in the section called Bayfield News: “The Steeles are having their home stuccoed.”

50 years ago: “Welcome Wednesday evening was a light shower that did little more than turn into mud the dust that had been blowing from the tailings’ pile. Still, it was the first measurable moisture since June 7, more than a month ago, when .03 inch fell just as it did last night.”

25 years ago: “Crews in Mesa Verde National Park are battling a wildfire that hot winds had fanned to at least 300 acres forcing the park’s closure. The fire wasn’t contained at press time.
