100 years ago: “The Colorado-New Mexico Fair has requested all business houses in the city to close their doors during the fair days at 12:30 o’clock, remaining closed until 5:30 p.m.”

75 years ago: “In joint action Durango and La Plata County officials ordered the prohibition of any public gatherings in the city or county for two weeks as an aid to checking the spread of infantile paralysis infection.”

50 years ago: “John Cundiff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Cundiff of Bayfield, is a member of a jet propulsion training class currently underway at the Hoffmann Aircraft Institute in Overland Park, Kans. (suburban Kansas City, Mo.)

25 years ago: “Low-security inmates from the state prison system soon will be housed in the La Plata County Jail. After a seven-month delay, the Colorado Department of Corrections reached an agreement with the La Plata County commissioners that could bring the county $168,350. The state will pay La Plata County $65 per day for a maximum of 10 prisoners a day between October and June. The inmates will be housed in the 25-bed work-release area of the jail and will do odd jobs for county under supervision.”
