100 years ago: “Manager J.R. Richter Jr. of the Silverton Northern Railroad company began work last week in opening the Gladstone railroad, and a good sized crew of men are not at work here. One of the bridges was injured by a slide during the winter, and that has been fixed.”

75 years ago: “Your last chance to see it. ‘Gone with the Wind’ ends tonight at the Kiva. Prices are 56 cents including tax. The performance starts at 8:00.”

50 years ago: “A portion of the stock of Western Broadcasting Corp., which owns KREZ, is being sold to three Ohio investors, President Rex Howell of Grand Junction announced. The sale is subject to FCC approval.”

25 years ago: “Plans are taking shape to put Durango’s best foot forward when 2,000 bicycle riders converge here June 16 and 17 for The Denver Post’s Ride the Rockies. Durango will be the second stop on this year’s 343-mile ride.”
