75 years ago: “Bob Tays, manager of Gradens Store, writes from Chicago that he is receiving the Herald-Democrat, that it is raining there, that he has been getting a thrill out of sail-boating, and that he will be back in Durango Aug. 21.”
50 years ago: SILVERTON – “The district attorney’s office was investigating the theft of $90 from the concession car on the Silverton narrow gauge train as it sat on the tracks shortly after arriving in Silverton.”
25 years ago: “Tax resisters in Colorado are launching another revolt and Heather Bryson is leading the charge in Durango. The Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights Amendment, defeated in November 1988, has been rewritten and relaunched as a campaign issue for November 1990. The amendment, if passed, would require voter approval for any new taxes or tax rate increases.”
