100 years ago: An advertisement for The Western Colorado Power Company read: “During the hot months an electric iron is invaluable. Saves time. Saves labor. Saves worry. Saves money. ‘Let the kilowatts do the work.’”

75 years ago: “Sheriff R. Bruce Sullivan left for Telluride to bring back Jack Porter, wanted here on a warrant from justice court on a non-support charge. Potter, who is charged with not supporting his wife and 22-month baby between May 15-Aug. 16 this year was arrested at Telluride.”

50 years ago: “Someone – and the Forest Service is trying to find out who – put out poisoned wieners in the vicinity of Highland Mary Lake in San Juan County. The poisoned bait killed two dogs over the weekend.”

25 years ago: “The La Plata County Commissioners met with water haulers and health officials to find a solution to dust problems caused by heavy trucks traveling county roads. Speed reduction was top on the list of solutions, which ranged from paving the roads to sprinkling them periodically with magnesium chloride.”
