75 years ago: “Inspection of the Animas Valley flood situation by army engineers is expected soon, following action taken Thursday by the Durango Chamber of Commerce through Secretary La Verne McKelvey. ‘We have been promised an Animas River flood control report by army engineers since April, 1940.’ All rivers in southwestern Colorado are flooding.”

25 years ago: “Only about a dozen people turned out Wednesday night at an open house hosted by representatives from Bullock, Smith and Partners, the group conducting a site analysis of the La Plata County Fairgrounds. Charlie Smith, owner of Bullock, Smith and Partners, said the great demand for non-fair uses including baseball, soccer, meetings and other events has increased demand for space.”
