And The West is History

100 years ago: “Durango proves best by test. Our former townsman, A. Rex Molette, who established a law office in Pasadena, California, in November, has found that conditions there do not compare favorably with the San Juan Basin, and he is returning home to take an active part in conducting the business of the law firm he represents. He will probably be in Durango tonight.”

75 years ago: “Durango was deeply shocked Sunday by the death of Henry C. Hamilton, local druggist, who succumbed shortly after a heart attack, which struck as he was attending a church meeting that afternoon.”

50 years ago: “La Plata fire volunteers believe fire protection service can be resumed in the county between Feb. 10-15, they indicated at a Friday evening meeting attended by 10 members.”

25 years ago: “La Plata County Hospital District officials hope to call a special meeting within a week for action on a proposal requesting special district bond funds for the planned behavioral health center conversion.”
