100 years ago: A.T. Brener, “of the Kline,” was among the farmers who visited the city, and reported that, “crop-growing measures sure have been moving some in his section of terra firma.”
75 years ago: Colorado liquor taxes were predicted to exceed the last year’s total.
50 years ago: Three unoccupied houses and a shed burned down at Santa Rita, and firemen called off protection efforts because children, from 10- to 13-years old, were throwing rocks at them. A neighbor reported that she saw three boys exit one of the vacant houses shortly before the fire started.
25 years ago: Three juveniles broke into the Durango Mall, 800 S. Camino del Rio, and entered businesses, including Clayton Sporting Goods, Precious Earth, Kachina Kitchen and American Bed and Furniture. Police found them on the roof about an hour and a half after the first alarm sounded.
