75 years ago: Russel “Skeets” Sanders celebrated six years of active service with eight guests, and had “the time of their young lives.”
50 Years Ago: W.W. Davies of Durango, a “longtime weather observer,” claimed the barometer was above normal and predicted “Mr. Groundhog” would “come out and look for more shadows.” Details were sketchy as to whether the groundhog would see his own shadow and return to winter hibernation.
25 years ago: Snowdown ‘92, “Clown Around Snowdown” was in full swing, with people in costume wandering around town from one event to the next. Downtown, Chapman Hill and La Plata County Fairgrounds were “a sea of clown wigs, Bula headgear and cowboy hats.”
