100 years ago: “A force of painters” were decorating the outside of Graden’s store. It would be painted “light tan with dark brown trimming.”

75 years ago: It was announced that, “for the first time in the seven years, Colorado has had a sales tax.” State auditors would travel across the state “to examine the books of business establishments.”

50 years ago: Firefighters responded to calls, including someone burning trash in the 3400 block of Main Avenue, a stump and brush fire behind the Silver Spur and a grease-fire started by a resident at 452 East Fourth Ave.

25 years ago: Durango attorney Rick Chew was suspended from law practice for 45 days after he “inadequately represented the interests of two separate sets of father-and-son defendants.”
