100 years ago: “Harry Sunset Cox, the hat salesman from St. Louis, came in to visit his old friend Charley Stillwell, and incidentally to sell a few Easter awnings. Sunset is the first man who stopped with Charley when the latter took charge of the Strater Hotel some several years ago and has ever since been a regular visitor.”
75 years ago: “Fishing for suckers now is permissible in the four streams in La Plata and Archuleta counties.”
50 years ago: DURANGO – “Talk about Go, Go, Go. That was the them of the world trip Mary Jane and Suzanne Matis, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Arvo Matis, returned from. For four weeks, the two sisters have dashed from one country to another. Suzanne is a stewardess and she flies between New York City and Europe. Mary Jane is a junior at Durango High School. Suzanne had a vacation coming and offered to take Mary Jane with her.”
