50 years ago: It was reported that “fewer traffic accidents and more injuries and deaths have occurred in Montezuma and Dolores counties during the first four months of 1968.” Highway Patrol said 58 accidents, 51 injuries and two deaths had occurred January through April.

25 years ago: A new health clinic for residents who don’t have insurance was set to open. “The La Plata County Hospital District and Mercy Medical Center have been working toward a clinic for a couple of years, since peace came in the 30-year ‘war’ between Durango’s two hospitals.”
