100 years ago: “C. C. Perkins delivered a ton of alfalfa to the Durango Mercantile Co. Mrs. W. H. Jenkins was down from the upper valley with fresh vegetables and purchasing seed potatoes for late planting.”

75 years ago: “The Electra Sporting Club is establishing a permanent 24-hour gate keeper at Lake Electra, and will hereafter strictly enforce all rules as to fishing and guest privileges.”

50 years ago: “William R. Duggan, here on a visit to his native Durango, is a remarkable man. Totally blind, he continues to play a big role in the formation of United States policy towards Africa as the African specialist on the state department’s 12-man policy committee. A native of Durango, he was born here 48 years ago, grew up and graduated from DHS in 1932.”

25 years ago: “Quit holding your breath, the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic is finally here. The 17th annual Iron Horse gets underway tonight, with the training meal at Pronto’s Pizza and Pasta.”
