100 years ago: It was announced that Percy A. Hollar, a young man reported in The Durango Democrat as missing for the past two weeks, was found to be “among the living,” according to Hesperus Fuel Co. manager W.I. Gifford, who said he’d been working for him at the mine during that time.
75 years ago: The winner of “the 1953 La Plata County Baby Derby” was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Noel Wrides of Falfa, born at 8:15 p.m. Jan. 2.
50 years ago: Two Durango boys, 7 and 9 years old, were injured in two separate sled vs. vehicle collisions. They were reported to be “in satisfactory condition” at Mercy Hospital.
25 years ago: Bernadette Cuthair Dance, 30-year-old woman from Towaoc and the driver of the car in a collision that resulted in two fatalities on New Year’s Day, was being held on charges of drunken driving and faced federal charges, according to Ute Mountain Ute Tribe officials and investigating FBI agents.
