75 years ago: “Fire resulting from a direct hit by lightning completely destroyed a large barn and its contents at the Frank Ludwig ranch just south of Bayfield. Approximately 100 tons of hay were stored in the barn, adding to the conflagration.”
50 years ago: Mesa Verde – “With three months of the year remaining, visitors to Mesa Verde National Park through September reached a new record high of 300,200. At this time last year, the figure was 244,026, for a gain of 56,174 or 23 percent.”
25 years ago: “The Joy Cabin, known as Durango’s oldest surviving structure, will return to Animas City at a new site next to the Animas Museum. The cabin, built in the 1870s, now sits in Brookside Park, where it was moved in 1958 from Main Avenue and 31st Street.”
