100 years ago: A report about livestock being sold in the area announced that, although the local demand was still good, the hog supply was limited and trade was “rather quiet.”

75 years ago: A vein of ore “of stupendous magnitude” – that measured thicker than 74 feet – was found at Columbus Mine on Lewis Mountain in the La Plata range, according to miners who worked there.

50 years ago: Don Hudson, an employee at a local insurance company, lost an estimated $2,500 in cash while fishing in the Florida River. Hudson said the money he dropped in the river was taken out of a company account.

25 years ago: Law enforcement officials recovered the body of an unidentified man on an island in the Animas River just north of the New Mexico state line.
