100 years ago: About 35,000 head of sheep were still scheduled to “come up over the Farmington line.” It was also added that Elmer Hatcher had 4,300 head of sheep in the local stock pens, which would require 21 train cars to transport.
75 years ago: A party of Durango hunters, “braving cold winds and disagreeable weather,” drove to Delta to hunt pheasants. They returned “with their bag limits and stories of how they ‘got’ their birds.”
50 years ago: Motorists killed three deer in one day south of Durango. Twin deer were struck during the morning, and one during the afternoon. No injuries were sustained by the two human drivers.
25 years ago: Members of several churches in Durango were busy preparing for a community Thanksgiving dinner for 550 people, which would be held at La Plata County Fairgrounds.
