100 years ago: Everyone was invited to attend a dance in Durango, which promised people that talented vocalists would “sing the choruses.” It was also said to include moonlight dances, good music, a good floor and a good time.
75 years ago: The draft quota for La Plata County selected 10 men to leave Durango for Denver at the end of the month.
50 years ago: The head football and basketball coaches at Montezuma-Cortez High School were relieved of their positions and would be reassigned by the school system as teachers, if they decided to remain.
25 years ago: A 23-year-old Durango man was arrested in a “buy and bust” operation conducted by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and local law enforcement at Schneider Park. Durango police officers and CBI agents bought about three-quarters of a pound of marijuana from the man, then arrested him on drug charges.
