75 years ago: A 7-year-old boy from Cortez, while herding cattle in a canyon near the city, was bitten by a rattlesnake and died before he was found two hours later, according to a report from the Montezuma County coroner.

50 years ago: A Durango youth was arrested and taken to Montezuma County Jail after he and several other boys from Durango and Farmington were involved in a brawl against youths who lived in Mancos. Cortez police and Montezuma County Sheriff personnel described the Durango and Farmington youths as “hippie types.”

25 years ago: A string of small brush fires was started after a report of kids setting off fireworks near Ferringway Condominiums.
