100 years ago: “The D&RG is ... refusing to run passenger trains on the Silverton branch at night when a snow storm is in progress.”

75 years ago: “One of the finest stand of Douglas fir timber in Southwest Colorado has been attacked by the dendroctonous beetle. Local forest officials estimate that some 5,000 trees have been destroyed by this beetle in the last three years. The forest service is sponsoring a WPA project whereby the latest infected trees will be treated. The project is located on the east slope of Devil Mountain, which is approximately 25 miles northwest of Pagosa Springs.”

50 years ago: “La Plata County Treasurer Art Lundy says 98.83 percent of the 1965 tax has been collected. This is an increase of 40/100 over 1964.”

25 years ago: “The Durango Area Chamber Resort Association honored business leaders Friday at the 76th annual awards luncheon at the Red Lion Inn.”
