And the West is History

100 years ago: “We deliver Sunday until noon packed so you can serve Sunday evening. Herbert Sample, who has just arrived from Iowa, will be at the head of our ice cream department. Get the best ice cream at the creamery.”

75 years ago: “The Graham Hardware, established in its new location, will be fully settled by Saturday. Now occupying the corner building formerly used by the Draper grocery just south of the Kiva Theater, the hardware stock has been enlarged and improved.”

50 years ago: “The North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools approved Fort Lewis College for full accreditation for the granting of bachelor’s degrees. ‘I believe this is the most significant event in the recent history of the college,’ Pres. Dr. John F. Reed said.”

25 years ago: “As Durango braces for journalist Hunter S. Thompson’s appearance, the mogul of controversy is filling his billing.
