100 years ago: “L.O. O’Donnell, of Oxford, who has been using a big heavy car in his trips to and from that town, purchased a new Saxon car at the Hocker garage and will now operate the lighter machine on the roads between here and Oxford.”

75 years ago: “Flu, mumps and whooping cough have assumed proportions in the Durango schools, 83 out of an enrollment of 383 in the senior high school alone being on Monday’s absent list. In normal items the daily absent list in Durango High School averages between 15 to 20 students.”

50 years ago: The following appeared in the section titled Dryside News: “The PTA bazaar and chili supper brought in about $225 net for the year’s expenses. Each room had a booth of bazaar items. The parents helped serve chili, soup, salad, pie and drinks to the many who came.”

25 years ago: “La Plata County Sheriff Bill Gardner said his acceptance into the Federal of Bureau Investigation’s National Academy is one of the grand moments of his career. Beyond the birth of his children and being elected three years ago, Gardner said the appointment ‘is the greatest honor I’ve ever received in my life and I’m very proud of it.’”
