50 years ago: Eight San Juan National Forest personnel were sent to the Grand Mesa Uncompahgre National Forest to fight a 300-acre fire burning eight miles northeast of Uravan.

25 years ago: Local health and animal control officials urged people not to panic “in the wake of reports of the hantavirus and the plague” and issued a list of precautions to help prevent contracting the diseases.
