100 years ago: Grasshoppers were “dying fast” in the Spring Creek section, according to reports from fishermen catching them for bait, who said they found maggots attached to the heads of many of “the hoppers.”

75 years ago: It was the last chance for locals to audition to win an appearance on the “Colorado Hour” broadcast on the KOA radio station in Denver.

50 years ago: Precipitation figures for Durango were reported to be down an inch and a half from the year before, in 1967.

25 years ago: La Plata County Sheriff’s Office received a report from a woman who hitched a ride with a couple on U.S. Highway 550, but wanted to get out of the car because they were fighting and one of them was bleeding.
