100 years ago: Reid Coppinger returned from Rochester, New York, and would depart to operate a sheep camp the next morning in the area.

75 years ago: Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Straub of Fort Wayne, Indiana, were in Durango visiting Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Jeffrey. Mr. Straub was traveling on business with the International Harvester truck plant, and Mrs. Straub was a sister of Mr. Jeffrey, and she enjoyed “the coolness and beauty of the mountains” and fishing at Electra Lake.

50 years ago: The Circle K Corp. filed a second action against the city of Durango in La Plata County District Court after the City Council denied the corporation’s applications for 3.2 beer licenses for Circle K stores on Sixth Street and at 2301 West Second Ave.

25 years ago: According to a report from the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, two men, one 18 and one 19 years old, were arrested for starting a brush fire with fireworks in the 1900 block of County Road 215.
