75 years ago: “Tonight will be the last chance for local and San Juan Basin talent to be auditioned in the contest to see which four numbers or groups will be selected to appear on the ‘Colorado Hour’ over the Denver radio station KOA next Monday night.”
50 years ago: “The Herald’s average daily net paid circulation for the month of July passed 5,500 for the first time. This means that approximately 18,000 people read the Herald as there are 3.2 people to the average family.”
25 years ago: “While researchers at the Seth Thomas clock company in Norcross, Ga., search for the original plans to the old La Plata County Courthouse clock, time is ticking away for fundraising efforts to pay for its restoration and installation in the courthouse addition. The clock and bell tower committee has raised about $6,000 – enough to restore and install the 1891 clock and bell in the new addition of the courthouse. But when plans for the courthouse project were being drawn last year, the committee told the county commissioners that it would raise $40,000 if the county would include a clock tower in the design.”
