75 years ago: “Joe Bryce and Frank Anderson, check-artist prisoners who recently broke out of the La Plata County jail and were later recaptured, will pay for the short liberty by serving an extra term in the same institution.”
50 years ago: “Richard Burton in ‘Hamlet,’ one of the greatest attractions in the history of the New York stage, will be presented here by Warner Bros. direct from Broadway in the Fine Arts Theatre at Fort Lewis College for four performances only, through the revolutionary new electronic-optical Electronovision process of Theatrofilm.”
25 years ago: “For the first time in Colorado, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has issued an administrative complaint for improper operation of water-disposal well west of Bayfield. The EPA has issued only 21 complaints for improper underground water injection in the six Region VIII states since amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act in June 1986 awarded the agency enforcement authority. The Bayfield injection well, converted from an existing conventional gas well in August 1987, injects salty water into the Mesa Verde formation around 5,350 feet deep.”
