50 years ago: Eleven fires in the San Juan National Forest were reported to be under control thanks to efforts from firefighters and employees of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.

25 years ago: Durango Police Department received a report of “many” stray cats living under the floor of a shed behind the post office on Eighth Street. After arriving at the location, an officer allegedly sprayed mace under the shed to “discourage the cats.”
