50 years ago: “The nickname of the Fort Lewis College athletic teams will be decided officially by a student body vote. ... Appearing on the ballot will be: Sundowners, crimson and gold; Raiders, no color change necessary, suggested blue and white; Hawks, red, black and white; Trappers, blue and silver; Renegades, red and black, and Road Runners, gold and red. ... 25 years ago: “A freak accident left Farmington resident Robert Beckley without a car and without a dog after his vehicle rolled off the mesa top at Hillcrest Golf Course. Beckley parked his two-door 1985 Honda on a slight incline next to the golf shop and left his dog, Arrow, inside the car. The dog apparently knocked the car out of gear, causing it to roll backward off the edge of the mesa and tumbled down the steep-sided slope for about 100 feet. Beckly was concerned about finding his dog who apparently was thrown from the vehicle.”
