And the West is History

100 years ago: “Joe Hartman, the coal operator of Lightner Creek was in the city delivering fuel to local customers, whom he says are now beginning to buy heavily.”

75 years ago: “Miss Clara Goeglein left on her vacation today. She did not announce her destination except to say that her general course would be southwest.”

50 years ago: CORTEZ – “The Montezuma County airport is closed and repairs to a damaged runway should be completed within 30 to 40 days. The airport was closed by Federal Aviation Administration action because the first 1,200 feet of Runway 3 was breaking up. The base of the runway had become saturated with water.

25 years ago: “More than half a ton of beef, lamb, goat and pork is wrapped in foil and ready for the roasting coals for the third annual ‘Taste of La Plata County.’”
