50 years ago: GEM VILLAGE – “Local residents are reminded of the School Board Election to be held in the Bayfield School District 10 on May 4. Among those who seek jobs as school board members are Opal Ludwig and Ervin (Tex) Mankins.”

25 years ago: “You know summer is close at hand when you hear that familiar train whistle blow. The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is preparing to open with more than 800 reservations scheduled for its first day of the season, May 5.”
