100 years ago: “Numerous friends and parishioners gathered at the station to bid farewell to the Rev. Father Charles P. Burgoon, rector of St. Mark’s Church here for the past two years, who with Mrs. Burgoon left to take charge of a larger parish in Cleveland, Ohio.”
75 years ago: “Figures just released by Emory E. Smiley, superintendent of public schools in District No. 9, indicates a total of 1,491 students, an increase of 59 over the enrollment in September 1939.”
25 years ago: “This week there will be much talk about bicycle riders Ned Overend, Jim Gould, Lisa Muhich and Sara Ballantyne. But Mettje Swift’s work for the international championship will remain a visual spectacle long after the championships are over. Swift, a local graphic designer, is responsible for the 110 limited-edition, official World Mountain Bike Championships banners that are displayed in downtown windows and office buildings.”
